Our community made it clear to us that they’d like to get to know the folks behind the scenes here at 505 Games and now we’re giving you the chance to find out more about them. Every week or so, we’ll publish one of these blogs, highlight a member of the team, find out what their role involves, ask them what they are working on and much more! Slate Schwertner, Influencer Relations Manager

 

Q: Hi Slate! So… What is it you do here at 505 Games?

A: I’m the Influencer Relations Manager, and have been at 505 Games since October of 2017. I work with content creators across all platforms to provide them the necessary tools to create the best content they can as they play our games.

 

Q: What do you enjoy the most about working at 505 Games?

A: I love being able to work on multiple titles at once. With so many things happening, I stay busy lining up our partners and other content creators to be successful when we’re moving forward with our games. It’s really cool to be able to work alongside my fellow creators to help them grow, while they play the great games we publish.

 

Q: Have you always wanted to be an Influencer Relations Manager?

A: With a degree in Literature and a minor in Broadcasting, I always thought I’d be more focused on Social Media Management and Content Creation. Though, after broadcasting on Twitch for over 2.5 years, I wanted to start working towards a position like this. That’s because in my time as a streamer, I had the pleasure of working with a few of the best Influencer Relations Managers in the industry. Working with them really helped guide me to where I am today. I had no idea how much I would love it until I started working with content creators, and helped them create some amazing streams and videos.

 

Q: Which title/s are you currently working on?

A: Literally all of them! As the Influencer Relations Manager, I have a hand in every game that we work on. I develop, plan, and execute strategies for every game so that content creators are in the know and are ready for success.

 

Q: Have you always wanted to work in the game industry?

A: Yes I have! I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember, and have always had a passion to be able to help get great games into the public’s hands. But, it wasn’t until I started broadcasting on Twitch that I knew that it would be possible. I’d say my time as a content creator actually drove me to find avenues into the game industry, while providing me with the necessary experience.

 

Q: Do you have a favourite 505 Games title? If so, what is it and why?

A: It’s, hands down, Last Day of June! When I was a full-time streamer on Twitch, I focused on Story-Rich games, and LDOJ is one of the best. I love that such a deep and beautiful story is told without any dialogue.

 

Q: Can you tell us something that many won’t know about you?

A: I used to be a sports writer. While I was on an internship at Disney World (another fun fact) I became a writer for a site dedicated to the Carolina Panthers of the NFL. After a few months, I became the editor of the site and watched it grow exponentially under my leadership.

 

Q: What advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue a career in games?

A: Put your heart and soul into your journey, and know that there isn’t a singular path to the industry. Before games I worked in car rental, software sales, and the CPU industry. I actually learned a lot that would lend itself to my current role. So understand that because you may not be in the industry yet, the experience you’re gaining along the way will always benefit you in the future. I was once told that “no goal is unattainable if you continue to reach for the stars. Do you best, always, and you’ll find happiness.”
